There is a constant compression force on the spine during the day, particularly when sitting and standing (see photo on the right). By lying down we are allowing the spine and intervertebral discs the opportunity to decompress. This can help to relieve and prevent any pain or discomfort caused by disc problems or mechanical back pain.
